Does anyone know whether the timings are accurate from superlab when sending triggers/markers for ERP experiments?
Timing Depends
Much depends. There are always some delays. Their magnitude and variability depends on the hardware that you are using. For example:
- SuperLab will always need some processing time between the onset of the image and sendng the event marker. The faster your computer, the shorter this processing time.
- There are some delays due to the output device's driver. The device is likely to be in the order of a few milliseconds. With a USB device, the delay will be more variable than with a PCI card.
Incidentally, this delay is precisely the reason why we have implemented support for light sensors in StimTracker: no delays and no variability.
