  • Inquisit RB-834 Button Codes

    Hello,

We are trying to get the RB-834 response pad to function with inquisit but need to know the corresponding number for each button.

In the Inquisit help page it says that the exact value given by each button will be between 0 and 255. It says to test it by using the responsemode = anyresponse in the experiment and pressing each button in turn, then look at the output and determine which button is which value.

However we have done this and pressed each button but in the response column in output the value is 0 for each button.

Can anyone advice what the numbers are for each button?!

    Many thanks,

    Lucy and Shiv

This sounds like a question that's best asked of Millisecond Software instead of here. The only thing that I can think of is to make sure that the response mode is sending data in the format/protocol that Inquisit is expecting. This is set using the 4 switches on the back that are near the USB connector. I think that Inquisit works in XID mode, meaning that all 4 switches need to be down, but you need to check with the publisher.

      Hi,

Thanks for getting back to us. We have also messaged the millisecond forums but have had no luck yet! We are using the com mode rather than xid and so have switches set to up up up down. But still no number in the response column of the output to tell us which number is which!

Thanks for your help anyway, if you think of anything else please let us know,

        Hi,

We've just tried XID3 and all switches down and it's worked! Thanks so much for your help

          Hi,

This morning we ran the experiment perfectly in inquisit and the box recorded all reaction times.

Unfortunately this afternoon when running the experiment again the button box is completely unresponsive.

We have tried the experiment using the keyboard as an input device and it worked fine so it is definitely the button box that is the problem. Any ideas why it would work this morning and not now? We have obviously tried restarting the computer and switching ports but no luck....

Could this be a mechanical fault? Any suggestions?

          Many thanks,

          Lucy and Shiv

One way to find out if this is a hardware problem vs. an Inquisit software settings problem is to download a SuperLab demo, and then download a sample experiment that will test the response pad. If it works with the sample experiment, then it's an Inquisit setting somewhere.
